What is Laser Dentistry?
In laser dentistry, focused light radiation (laser) is used for various treatments. Depending on the wavelength and laser type, soft tissue (gums, mucosa), hard tissue (enamel, dentine) or bacteria can be treated selectively. The laser works precisely and gently – with less trauma to surrounding tissue than conventional instruments, often without or with reduced use of anaesthetic.
Areas of Laser Use in Our Practice
Laser is not a replacement for all conventional treatments – but in certain areas it is a valuable addition for gentler and more precise results.
Laser in Periodontology
In periodontitis therapy, laser is used adjunctively (in addition to) mechanical cleaning. The laser disinfects periodontal pockets, reduces bacterial load and can gently remove inflamed tissue. This can support the healing process.

Soft Tissue Surgery
For minor soft tissue procedures such as releasing lip frenum (frenectomy), correction of gum margins (gingivectomy) or uncovering dental implants, laser is a gentle alternative to the scalpel – often with less bleeding and faster healing.

Laser in Endodontics
In root canal treatment, laser can be used for additional disinfection of the canals – supplementing chemical irrigation. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is also used for biostimulation and pain reduction after treatments.

How Does a Laser Treatment Work?
Assessment & Indication
We check whether laser is suitable and beneficial for your treatment. Not every treatment benefits from laser – we use it in a targeted and indication-appropriate manner.
Preparation & Safety Measures
You and our team wear special protective goggles. The area to be treated is locally anaesthetised if required. The laser is calibrated to the correct settings.
Laser Treatment
The laser is applied precisely in the treatment area. The procedure is often quick – from a few seconds to minutes depending on the application. No loud noise, no vibration.
Aftercare
After laser treatment we provide behavioural recommendations. In most cases, any sensitivity subsides quickly. Close follow-up for periodontal treatments.

Costs depend on the type and scope of laser treatment. Under Austrian dental chamber regulations we are not permitted to publish price information online.
